Rising Beyond Boundaries
Hi, I am Deepa Bohara, a graduate of Kopila Valley School from Surkhet, Nepal. As a young girl from the marginalized Dalit Community, I faced discrimination, inequality, challenges, hurtful comments, obstacles, and a lack of opportunities. In a world that tried to limit my dreams, Kopila Valley School welcomed me with open arms in 6th grade. I became a free bird. I learned and grew, believing that I could be anything I wanted. Since then one of my biggest dreams in life was to bring opportunities and work for the betterment of the marginalized Dalit community.
I was diagnosed with a chronic illness called Lupus (SLE= Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) in 2012. All the situations I was facing made me feel like I couldn’t do much because of where I came from and because of my ongoing health issues. The Lupus Flare Ups affected my kidney, causing swelling. However, Kopila Valley believed in me, treated me, and restored my hope. Living with lupus for over ten years has taught me a lot. I learned to turn my struggles into strength. I have to live because the world is beautiful!!!!!
Now, I am a Lupus Warrior, a Spoken Word Poet, sharing my stories with the world and raising my voice for change. I worked with one of the US Embassy’s Book Bus Projects for 3 years, engaging with school students and communities across different districts of Nepal. I returned to my community and established my own NGO, “The Lead Nepal,” with a determination to create better opportunities, amplify voices, empower individuals, and create a safe space for the marginalized Dalit community of Nepal.
In Nepal, Dalit is an identity that represents the marginalized and the most vulnerable folks. People from the Dalit community have been wrongly led to believe a tale of injustice as their own reality and we’re here to change Dalit story. The Lead Nepal aims to work among the Dalit community, to truly practice the values of inclusion and help shape a future beyond what’s been foretold in the community’s obscured histories. Our Goal
Our goal is to create a safe and accessible space for the Dalit community for creative learning and explore opportunities to achieve their highest potential.
Teaching for Learning: Empowering Dalit Voices Through Digital Literacy
The Lead Nepal’s Teaching for Learning Project introduces “Empowering Dalit Voices Through Digital Literacy” for youth including both girls and boys from the marginalized Dalit Community. The mission of this 3-month long training is to bridge the digital divide and empower individuals by providing them with basic computer skills which will create job opportunities for them in offices, schools, NGOs, INGOs, Administration and Banks, or start their businesses in the computer field. This will uplift both their economic status and contribute to their educational growth which were once distant dreams.
Right now, your support can make a difference in creating a future for the marginalized community in Surkhet, Nepal. Your help will directly fund the creation of this transformative learning environment, where participants can learn, explore, and grow in the digital world. No matter the amount, by giving any small contribution to this campaign and sharing among your network, you are helping me break down barriers and give more opportunities to the marginalized Dalit community.
Remember, life is full of challenges, but dreams are bigger challenges. Your support can help me turn these challenges into opportunities. Thank you so much for being a part of this journey!!!!!!!!!
